PROJECT IN DEVELOPMENT

The LaughWorks Sketch Comedy Group in

LAUGHWORKS:  THE MOVIE
a feature-length film by
Tom Solari & LaughWorks

Business Plan Summary

The Project

LaughWorks  is developing the production of a low-budget  motion picture, LaughWorks:  The Movie, written by Tom Solari, in association with the LaughWorks Sketch Comedy Group, directed by Tom Solari, starring the LaughWorks group, and produced by Eric Sherman and Tom Solari.

LaughWorks:  The Movie  is designed to take advantage of the opportunities offered by current industry trends toward low-budget, independently-made pictures, as it exploits the demonstrable writing and performing talents and abilities of the LaughWorks group.

The picture will be made in Los Angeles with a local cast and crew, as a signatory production with The Screen Actor's Guild (SAG), under the rules set forth in one of the SAG Low Budget Agreements.

Independent financing for this project is expected to come from one or more qualified investors, through the instrument of a suitable type of investment vehicle, such as a limited partnership.

As the completed film is distributed into the marketplace, revenues, as they become available to the producers, will go, first, to the investors, until the initial financial investment, plus fair interest, is recouped.  After that, the producers and the investors will share revenues on a 50-50 basis.

Due to economies written into the script, it is projected that the movie can be shot in less than three weeks, and it is expected that the entire production, from start to finish, will take no more than six months to complete.

Upon completion of the film, U.S. and international distribution will be sought, using a strategy that has proved successful for other similarly budgeted films.

It could take as little as a few months from completion to realize a financial return, presupposing a cash advance against distribution revenues, or as much as from one to two years, in the absence of such an advance.

The People

The LaughWorks group have been receiving acclaim for their originality and their singular ability to be truly funny and highly entertaining for all audiences, without having to resort to foul language or degraded and offensive portrayals.  This movie exploits these demonstrable talents and abilities and expands the audience for their work.

Writer/Director/Producer, Tom Solari, is an experienced veteran of comedy entertainment whose credits include two seasons as a regular performer on the seventies, prime-time, hit TV show, The Sonny & Cher Show (CBS), and prior to that, a series of comic guest appearances on another prime-time hit show, The Andy Williams Show (NBC).

In the intervening years, Mr. Solari has run his own award-winning production company, Solari Communications, and for the past several years he has been producing and directing the LaughWorks group in live performance, whose productions have been favorably compared to the spectacular entertainment, Cirque du Soleil.

Producer, Eric Sherman, son of Hollywood golden age director, Vincent Sherman, is an award-winning filmmaker in his own right, as well as a teacher, author and consultant to the film studios and numerous independent directors, producers and writers.

Mr. Sherman's books, Directing The Film (in its 13th printing), Selling Your Film - A Guide to the Contemporary Marketplace, and Frame By Frame are staples within the film community and are used widely as textbooks at colleges and universities around the world.

Since 1976, Mr. Sherman has been teaching film production and direction at two prestigious colleges, Art Center College of Design and California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts).  He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Cinematheque.

Along with his production activities, Eric Sherman served as the Chief Consultant to The Gallup Organization and its Motion Picture Industry Division.  (Gallup is the world's largest public opinion and marketing research firm.)

The Anticipated Result

In the past several years, a number of films have demonstrated that a low-budget production can have significant market value.  The Brothers McMullen, Chasing Amy and The Blair Witch Project are successful examples.

Given the high quality of the script and the demonstrably funny sketch comedy material which LaughWorks:  The Movie  encompasses, along with the experience and professionalism of the principals involved, and the low-budget yet high-quality approach to the production, the producers anticipate an efficient, quickly produced project which will have great appeal to the growing international audience for entertaining, independently-made movies, resulting in favorable financial returns for all involved.
